About Us
‘Hybu’ is a Welsh verb meaning ‘to promote’, ‘to encourage’ or ‘to support’.
Hybu Limited is a non-profit making company limited by guarantee formed in January 2008 giving legal structure to work which commenced July 2007. The company has a board of 4 Directors which includes young people from the original 2007 intake. Hybu reaches out to young people and local communities through programmes designed to encourage participants to value themselves and to be recognised as the incredible members of society they actually are. They achieve this by supporting each other and local communities in a variety of practical ways. There are currently three strands to our work:
- Hybu Pobl Ifanc (encouraging young people) is a programme for 16-18 year olds who follow a structured programme to develop volunteering skills. These are put to practical use in support of BBC Children in Need.
- Dysgu i Arwain (learning to lead) is a programme for 18-25 year olds who dream of supporting and encouraging young people to work for the benefit of those around them.
- Hybu Training is available for adults of all ages, specialising in Playwork, Volunteering and Personal Development.
Hybu exists to promote, encourage and assist in the development of good citizenship and well being amongst children and young people via education, training, mentoring and practical experience, based on an ethos of social justice, equality and diversity. Hybu aims to make participants shine with an atmosphere of mutual support generating a strong sense of belonging and a place where mistakes can be made and confidence restored.
Participants define Hybu as:
H – HAPPINESS because you are happy when you attend and you are happy when you work because you are making other people happy
Y – YOUNG because Hybu is for young people who are allowed to take control and responsibility and their youth is not considered a barrier to anything
B – BE INVOLVED because it is really good and as many young people as possible should join
U – UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT which is given to everyone who belongs
